Richard P. Davies, Esq.

Attorney at Law

Richard earned his B.A. in 1992 from Loyola Marymount University and his Juris Doctor in 2004 from Lewis and Clark Law School. While in law school, he volunteered his time at Catholic Charities Immigration clinic and interned at the Metropolitan Public Defenders Office in Portland, Oregon.

With over fifteen years of experience in criminal law, Richard has represented clients in cases ranging from traffic violations and car accidents, to capital murder. He has extensive trial and courtroom experience, and, in 2007, attended the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia for an intensive two-week training program designed specifically for trial work.

Prior to starting his own firm, Richard worked as a Washoe County Public Defender for four years and for Laub & Laub, a private law firm based out of Reno, Nevada, for five years. During his time with Laub & Laub, he worked in criminal law, family law, personal injury, and immigration.

Moria E. Desmarais

Senior Associate

Moria Desmarais is a Senior Associate at The Law Office of Richard P. Davies, Esq. She first joined the practice in 2015 as a legal intern. Her practice focuses mainly in criminal law, juvenile criminal law, and NRS 432b (Department of Children and Family Services) matters.

In May 2018, Moria graduated from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California, where she was recognized as a Wildman Schumacher Scholar and as a Dean Merit Scholar. Her studies focused on complex criminal litigation and practical applications of family law. She also participated in numerous extracurricular activities, which included a term as Vice President of the Student Bar Association. During her summer semesters, Moria worked at the Washoe County Public Defender’s Office as a summer extern, working with clients at the Justice Court and District Court levels.

After graduation, Moria became licensed in the State of Nevada, passing the July 2018 Bar Exam on her first attempt. She then went on to clerk for the Honorable Barry L. Breslow, presiding judge in Department Eight of The Second Judicial District Court. There, she handled primarily complex civil litigation, working with Judge Breslow on rendering decisions and drafting the Court’s orders.

In private practice, Moria has handled cases at the Municipal, Justice, and District Court levels, involving matters from Churchill, Lyon, and Washoe Counties. Her recent assignments include criminal matters ranging from misdemeanors to capital murder. Before turning twenty-eight, Moria’s career included working directly on four capital murder cases. Recently, Moria received recognition by the Lawyers of Distinction for excellence in criminal law for the 2020 and 2021 years.

Sarah T. Hunter

Senior Associate

Sarah is licensed to practice law in Nevada. Her practice is focused on family law, including child custody, divorce, child support, adoption, termination of paternal rights, and private dependency actions under NRS 432B.

Prior to practicing family law, Sarah spent two years clerking at the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County for the Honorable Judge Chuck Weller. Throughout her clerkship, Sarah received extensive training in family law in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. Sarah also had the opportunity to work with all the family law judges on the bench who helped her refine her skills as a lawyer.

Prior to clerking, Sarah attended law school at New England Law in Boston, Massachusetts. In Boston, during her second and third years of school, Sarah worked for a multiservice prominent firm in the financial district. Prior to working at the firm, Sarah worked in a private mediation firm where she learned crucial negotiating skills in high conflict cases. After her first year of law school, Sarah spent a summer interning with the Hon. Judge Janet Berry at the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County.

Sarah was born and raised in Reno, Nevada, and is a proud alumnus of the University of Nevada, Reno. In her free time, Sarah loves to go on adventures with her husband and her Border Collie, Billy.
