Justin Champagne is a 4th-generation Nevadan who was born and raised in Sparks, Nevada. He received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada in 1996 and attended law school at the University of Utah College of Law, graduating in 1999.
Upon graduation, Justin served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jerome M. Polaha in the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County, Nevada. He then worked at the Washoe County Public Defender’s office from 2001 until 2016. While at the Public Defender’s Office, Justin worked in every area of criminal defense, including juvenile defense and mental health commitments. Justin spent several years working in every type of specialty court in Washoe County, including Drug Court, Diversion Court, Veteran’s Court and Mental Health Court. Justin was instrumental in the development of Washoe County’s Felony DUI Court, representing hundreds of clients while helping them avoid prison time and felony convictions. After working at the Public Defender’s Office, Justin served as a Deputy Reno City Attorney from 2017 to 2020, before retiring from public service.
Justin currently serves as a Pro Term Judge in the Reno Municipal Court when he is not representing clients in all aspects of criminal defense in Northern Nevada.
